Issues and Challenges:
- Excessive rainfall amounts
- Scheduling and project delays
- Sensitive nearby waters
- Stringent discharge requirements
- Groundwater flows
Approaches and Solutions:
Heavy sediment laden water threatened to breach the temporary retention basin sidewalls resulting in contamination of a nearby river. Liquid Biostar-CH was injected into the water as it was pumped from the basins. Weir tanks were employed to pre-settle the suspended solids prior to passing through a sand filtration system. Clean water was allowed to be discharged directly into the river.
