CHALLENGE: MONITORING SYSTEMS IN REMOTE AREAS AND ACROSS CHALLENGING TERRAINS

Serving 1.2 million customers, FortisBC delivers natural gas and electricity across British Columbia, Canada, totaling more than 20% of energy consumed in the province. Since corroded steel pipes can be the cause of system failure and costly outages in natural gas transmission and distribution networks, FortisBC uses a corrosion protection (CP) system to monitor pipelines across the province. Managing risk and meeting the provincial mandate was the original goal for CP system remote monitoring, now CP data is utilized for proactive analysis and maintenance.
