Customer: Bundesamt für Seeschifffahrt und Hydrographie (BSH)
- The Bundesamt für Seeschifffahrt und Hydrographie (BSH) is an authority that forms part of the German Federal Ministry of Transport, Building and Urban Development with offices in Hamburg and Rostock. It undertakes a complex range of tasks as an important maritime service provider in Germany.
Application: Organic pollutants in sediment & suspended matter
- The two pollutant groups chlorinated hydrocarbons (CHC, including PCBs, HCHs and the DDT group) and polycyclic aromatic compounds (16 aromatic compounds in accordance with the EPA methods and selected alkylated aromatic compounds) are determined. Evaporation steps are a fixed element of the sample preparation for the GC-MS analysis and it should be possible to undertake them as efficiently as possible.
Equipment: Syncore® and V-700/V-855
- The Syncore parallel evaporator makes it possible to simultaneously reduce 12 extracts to a residual volume of 1 ml or 0.3 ml. Sample losses, due to unintentional reduction until dry, are prevented in this manner. The V-700/V-8155 pump stand makes the work easier with the automatic distillation mode EasyVac.
Benefit / Conclusion:
- By using the Syncore parallel evaporator with the vacuum pump V-700/V-855 it was possible to significantly reduce the effort during sample preparation. The compact evaporation unit without a water bath can also be put to good use in a research ship laboratory.
