“I have recommended this system to other labs who perform this, and similar tests. We are more than satisfied with the build quality and engineering of the equipment – we work it hard, and it continues to deliver good results.”

Customer: Testing laboratory, UK
This leading international testing, inspection and certifi cation organisation which assesses customers’ products and commodities against a wide range of safety, regulatory, quality and performance standards and in some cases, certifi es the management systems of customers. This company has over 280 laboratories with more than 13,500 people around the world and is increasingly undertaking outsourced testing work for its customers.
Application: Removal of a volatile solvent
To remove MTBE (Methyl tert-butyl ether) from an aqueous preparation to isolate and concentrate organic residues.
Equipment: Syncore® Analyst R-12, V-710 and Chiller B-740/14
The original method used a liquid-liquid extraction process which has been updated. Now a solid phase extraction sorbent is used, but there is still a need to concentrate organic residues from the solvent. The Syncore system allows us to perform twelve samples at a time with less user input once the system is loaded. It runs automatically and frees the operator for doing other tasks whilst it performs its own. We used to use a rotary evaporator which was physically demanding – if the fl asks went dry the analysis needed to be repeated! We have only had one tube go dry in many years of operation – it had a pin-hole in it!
Benefit / Conclusion: Unsupervised operation and incredible repeatability
We take between 60 – 80 mL solvent and concentrate down to 3 ml. The Flushback Module gives more than adequate recovery and the chiller maintains the required solvent volume in the cooled residual volume appendage of the tube very reproducibly indeed.
