Clean Water Act Compliance
While the Environmental Protection Agency works through the implications of the Second Circuit Court decision related to the implementation of the Phase II Final Rule - Clean Water Act, ENERCON continues to support the electricity generation industry with environmental and engineering services. These services are geared to minimize financial and operational impacts for operating plants, while satisfying a continually changing regulatory landscape. Our foundation for compliance melds a broad spectrum of biological, technical, financial, and legal strategies through cost effective environmental assessment, operations evaluation, technology design, and economic feasibility into site-specific solutions.
Nuclear Industry
The Nuclear Power Industry requires specialized talent to operate and maintain nuclear power plants in the United States and abroad. ENERCON is proficient in services which maintain and upgrade nuclear facilities by combining the talents of engineers, designers, licensed operators, licensing engineers, analysts and scientists to resolve a wide variety of technical challenges facing the nuclear industry. The Company is currently focused on new nuclear plants license application processes and developing solutions for operating plant challenges such as NFPA 805/Appendix R, Flow Accelerated Corrosion(FAC), PWR and BWR sump strainers, spent fuel storage, plant security, and Power Uprates.
Power Delivery
The Power Delivery business sector of the electric utility industry is responding to the need to expand and improve the reliability of the transmission systems that serve their customers. These systems must also provide the increased capacity to accommodate bulk power flows into, out of, and through their network. The current movement follows a long period of limited investment in transmission infrastructure. ENERCON has the resources and skills to help meet the expected increase in need for project support, including both engineering and environmental capabilities. From new overhead electric transmission line siting and routing to the refurbishment of aging assets, ENERCON is available to complete studies, perform design, implement re-ratings/upgrades, or manage roadway relocations. ENERCON’s project management capability and quality programs are among its finest attributes.
Mechanical Engineering
Cooling Water System Analysis and Design, Pumps and Valves Modifications, Feedwater Heaters Analysis and Replacements, System Flow Modeling/CFD, Condenser Analysis and Modifications, Compressed Air System Analysis and Design, Diesel Generators Evaluations and Modifications, Cooling Towers Evaluations and Modifications, Steam Cycle Heat Balance Modeling, Chiller Evaluations and Modifications, Air Handling Units Evaluations and Modifications
Fire Protection
Fire protection at nuclear facilities is unlike fire protection anywhere else. The complexity of the issue expands beyond life safety and property protection. Safe shutdown of the nuclear facility and prevention of radioactive material release are also prime considerations. Regulators have increased requirements because of the safety impact of fire protection. The complexity of the systems analysis and the code requirements for fire protection systems adds to the difficulty of maintaining compliance.
Nuclear Criticality Safety
Nuclear criticality safety is a very specialized field of engineering. It requires experience in nuclear physics as well as knowledge of system processes, operational practices, regulatory requirements, and conduct of operations principles. For this reason, our criticality engineers possess technical abilities beyond the average engineer. When analyses involve criticality codes, a verification and validation must be made against benchmark experiments. The selection of which experiments to use is, in itself, a specialized ability. Furthermore, proper modeling and documentation of the experiments is essential to defending the validation of the code.
Radiation Analysis
ENERCON is a leading company in Radiation Shielding Analysis, Radiation Dose Assessment and Atmospheric Dispersion models.
Systems Engineering & Analysis
Analyses of systems in nuclear facilities require comprehensive engineering. The engineer must not only consider the specific system involved in the task, but the interaction of that system on all other plant systems. Quality performance in this area requires that projects be led by individuals with specific technical expertise and a fundamental knowledge of plant operations. Such projects also require attention to detail.
Groundwater Tritium Monitoring
ENERCON has performed a number of assessments and evaluations to assist nuclear facilities in determining the potential for groundwater contamination by tritium. These assessments include complete hydro-geologic reviews, engineering reviews, and review of groundwater and surface water uses in the area. They also include the identification of data gaps in the hydro-geologic and engineering assessments previously performed, and recommended action items and/or field activities which address the facility`s groundwater monitoring capabilities. ENERCON also can drill monitoring wells and/or set up instrumentation for proper monitoring of groundwater flow and radionuclide dispersion.
