Manufacturing processes generate significant quantities of wastewater that vary greatly in quality depending on the industry. Driven by water scarcity and stringent discharge regulations, manufacturers must focus on new ways to reduce, reclaim, and renew their wastewater to meet sustainability goals and reduce their water footprint.

Abundant process water is critical for manufacturing. The range of quality demanded is broad, from high-volume potable water for cooling tower make-up to extracting high-grade ingredient water in the food & beverage industry. Process water is sourced and produced from surface and groundwater, including seawater, municipal secondary or tertiary treated effluent, and industrial wastewater. The treatment process removes organics, suspended and total solids to meet the specified needs of the manufacturing process.

Emerging contaminants are new or re-emerged chemicals of concern found in medicines or personal care, cleaning, lawn care, and agricultural products, that may cause adverse health or environmental impacts. These include per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), a group of dangerous emerging contaminants (EC) chemically and biologically persistent in the environment. Governments are enforcing more stringent limits down to parts per trillion (ppt) to manage the health risks to humans and wildlife.
