Personal Radiation Protection - Solutions
StemRad - Model 360 Gamma - Shielding Reactor Personnel from Gamma Radiation
Emergency response personnel at nuclear reactors employ time and distance to keep their doses as low as reasonably achievable (ALARA). Yet, in emergency situations these brave individuals may be inadvertently exposed to higher doses than planned. In such cases, the third leg of ALARA – shielding – should be employed. While being adequately protected from alpha and beta radiation, up until the advent of the StemRad 360 Gamma, there was no meaningful shielding from gamma radiation.
StemRad - Model 360 Gamma - Military Radiation Protection
StemRad’s 360 Gamma radiation shield provides necessary protection for military personnel performing mission-critical tasks while operating in the most dangerous CBRN environments. Whether on the front lines of battle or while protecting the Homeland, military combatants may be exposed to harmful gamma radiation in a variety of scenarios including: nuclear weapon detonation, radiological dispersal device (RDD) and nuclear reactor operations.
StemRad - Model 360 Gamma - Civilian Version - Gamma Radiation Shield
In all likelihood, we will witness yet another radiological accident or attack in our lifetime. However, even in the worst of scenarios, the lives of many can be saved with effective radiation protection. Whether it be during your evacuation to safety or when you emerge from a shelter, the wearable StemRad 360 Gamma radiation shield protects you from the most penetrating type of radiation – gamma radiation. Prior to the development of the StemRad 360 radiation shield, there has been no effective wearable defense against this lethal and most penetrating type of radiation. The 360 Gamma civilian radiation shield protects the bone marrow in your pelvic area, the tissue that is most rich in stem cells, from exposure to gamma radiation.
StemRad - Model MD - Exoskeletal Radiation Shielding Protection
Current X-ray protective solutions are either too heavy or too limiting to the practitioner’s mobility. Critically, most solutions lack essential radiation protection, leaving the head and face of the operator exposed to harmful radiation. The StemRad MD exoskeleton bears the weight of the shielding, relieving you from the pain of wearing lead while adding critical protection. Importantly, you enjoy complete freedom of movement. Full Protection with Full Mobility – StemRad MD.
StemRad - Model 360 Gamma - First Responder Radiation Protection
Stemrad 360 Gamma for First Responders: First responders are the first on the scene during a radiological incident and the first to face the risk of exposure to harmful radiation. StemRad has developed the 360 Gamma wearable shield to protect first responders from the potentially lethal effects of gamma radiation. The combination of mobility and protection from gamma radiation was not possible before StemRad brought the 360 Gamma to market.
StemRad - Model AstroRad - Radiation Shield for Astronauts
The AstroRad is personal protective equipment for astronauts to wear beyond low Earth orbit (LEO) that markedly reduces Radiation Exposure Induced Death (REID) such as cancer while eliminating the possibility of Acute Radiation Syndrome (ARS) due to solar particle events (SPE). AstroRad was co-developed by StemRad and Lockheed Martin to mitigate SPE effects, with initial research and development support coming from the Space Florida-Israel Innovation Partnership program.
Technology
StemRad - Model 360 Gamma - Personal Protection Technology
Prior to the advent of the 360 Gamma, there was no effective personal protection from gamma radiation. In Chernobyl, first responders wore makeshift lead sheeting for protection. In Fukushima, emergency personnel undertook disaster mitigating activities without any protection from gamma radiation. In order to shield as much of the body as possible, past personal shielding solutions used only thin layers of inherently heavy radiation-attenuating materials. These types of solutions are ineffective in blocking energetic gamma radiation.
