SCOPE 1.1 Contractor shall furnish the Wolverine Brand Manhole Odor Filter Insert as called for in the specification. 1.2 The Wolverine Brand Manhole Odor Filter Insert shall effectively reduce or prevent odors from being emitted through manhole covers. The device shall also prove effective in keeping surface water inflow, grit, sand, salt, chemical spills, foreign objects, road oils, etc. from entering the manhole and collection system lines through the manhole cover. 2. MATERIAL & DESIGN 2.1 The Wolverine Brand Manhole Odor Filter Insert and related components shall be manufactured from corrosion proof material suitable for atmospheres and conditions commonly found in wastewater collection systems. 2.2 The Wolverine Brand Manhole Odor Filter Insert body shall be manufactured from a “durable” High Density Polyethylene Copolymer material that meets ASTM Specification Designation D-1248 Class A, Category 5, Type III. This material shall have superior stress crack resistance, combined with high impact strength. The carbon canister shall be manufactured from PVC and corrosion resistant components. 2.3 The Wolverine Brand Manhole Odor Filter Insert shall be manufactured to dimensions provided by the purchaser to allow easy installation within the manhole frame. 2.4 The carbon shall be GC-IPH Caustic Impregnated Carbon or Catalytic activated carbon based on customer preference. Carbon shall be non-hazardous according to the definition for “health hazard” and “physical hazard” provided in the OSHA Hazard Communication Law (29 CFR Part 1910). 3. GASKET 3.1 The insert shall have a cross-linked polyethylene gasket installed upon the insert rim by the manufacturer. 4. MEASUREMENT 4.1 The Wolverine Brand Manhole Odor Filter Insert shall be manufactured to fit the manhole frame rim upon which the manhole cover rests. Exact measurements shall be required from the purchaser. Note: Simple Solutions Dist. LLC is not responsible for improper fit due to inaccurate measurements provided at time of order. A signed order/ measurement sheet is required for all orders 4.2 Instructions and measuring diagrams will be made available to the purchaser, to insure a proper fit of the Wolverine Brand Manhole Odor Filter Insert within the manhole frame. 5. INSTALLATION 5.1 Remove the manhole cover and clean the frame rim of all dirt and debris before placing the Wolverine Brand Manhole Odor Filter Insert upon the rim. 5.2 Place the Wolverine Brand Manhole Odor Filter Insert, without the canister, onto the manhole frame rim. 5.3 Install the carbon canister through the hole in the insert. 5.4 Remove the canister lid and pour the activated carbon into the canister. 5.5 Replace canister lid. 5.6 The manhole cover is replaced as before, and the installation is complete. 6. REMOVAL AND/OR REPLACEMENT 6.1 Remove manhole cover. 6.2 Remove canister lid from canister body. 6.3 Grab stainless steel bucket type handle within canister. 6.4 Lift canister from insert body. (Carbon may be removed from canister before the canister is lifted from the insert body.) 6.5 Remove manhole insert body, if necessary. 6.6 Dispose of spent carbon as non-hazardous waste. 6.7 Reinstall canister through the hole in the insert. 6.8 Refill canister with new carbon. 6.9 Replace canister lid. 6.10 Replace manhole cover. 7. ACCEPTANCE 7.1 Completed installations must meet engineer’s approval.
