One of the key differentiators of The BriteBin™ Solution is their onboard technology. Each bin is connected to the The BriteBin™ Software platform, allowing councils and local authorities to monitor bin status in real-time. This platform provides insights into footfall and bin usage, enabling more efficient waste collection routes and schedules. The smart technology also reduces unnecessary trips by waste collection trucks, further contributing to reduced carbon emissions and operational costs.

PEL has been designing and manufacturing innovative street waste reduction solutions for over a decade. This was long before most councils and local authorities fully understood the value intelligent systems can add to waste management, emissions reductions and cost savings.

Our award winning BriteBin™ Software solution is the leading intelligence across the smart waste industry. The BriteBin™ Software solution operates wirelessly through the cloud. It generates real-time data transmitted across the SigFox, GSM, NBIoT, and LTE-M networks.

The software is a robust telemetric system, which has been extensively tested in the field under a number of different conditions-of-use. BriteBin™ technology is accessed remotely through a web portal and offers cutting-edge technology to enhance bin monitoring, optimise collection routes and improve the efficiencies of the litter bin emptying service.

BriteBin™ software automatically compiles fill-level data from each bin and displays this data on the dashboard in a colour coded format with green designating a fill-level of 0-50% full, Amber: 51-85% full and Red: 86-100% full. These fill-level percentages are fully customisable and can be set to the particular requirements of the contracting authority.

The bin fill-level sensor mounted on the BriteBin™ unit detects the actual litter level or fullness of the bin and transmits this data wirelessly to the cloud-based BriteBin™ software platform. BriteBin™ dashboard allows real-time map visualisation of operational status, fill-level/spare capacity levels for the individual bins across the complete fleet. The BriteBin™ management dashboard is accessed remotely via a web-based interface and does not require any direct connection or installation of executable programmes on the contracting authorities ICT architecture.

The BriteBin ™ software solution allows customers to monitor fill-levels across their entire BriteBin™ fleet. They can then proactively deploy collection resources to only those bins requiring service. An integrated BriteBin™ sensor is mounted to the interior of the unit. This accurately monitors litter levels and communicates the fill-level data in real time to the PEL BriteBin™ data management platform. The BriteBin™ software processes the data received, and issues an alert via email, SMS or push notifications to the appropriate authority when a bin needs to be emptied.

Furthermore, PEL have programmed a data management dashboard which displays real-time fill level readings and the operational status of each individual bin. This dashboard is accessible on mobile, desktop computer and tablet. We offer extensive training across the BriteBin™ platform and software.

  • Route Optimisation. – Waste collection routes can be planned more efficiently due to knowing which bins are full and need immediate attention, reducing unnecessary stops and saving fuel.
  • Reduced Collection Frequency. – Bins are only emptied when they are full, reducing the frequency of collections and lowering operational costs.
  • Timely Collection.– Bins are emptied before they have a chance to overflow, this maintains cleanliness, prevents littering and improves satisfaction for residents and businesses.
  • Trend Analysis. – Collect data over time to understand waste generation patterns, helping in planning and resource allocation .
  • Capacity Management. – Asses whether current bin capacities are adequate or need adjustments.
  • Reduced Emissions.– Optimised routes mean fewer vehicle emissions, contributing to lower carbon footprints and reduce associated costs.
  • Promotes Recycling. – Sensors can be used to track recycling bins separately, to encourage better recycling practices and to reduce waste sent to landfills.
  • Bin Utilization.– Monitor the usage of different types of bins (e.g. recycling, general, compost) to ensure proper utilisation and identify the need for additional bins in high-usage areas.
  • Bin Health.– Track the conditions of bins and schedule maintenance or replacements proactively to avoid sudden failures or damage
  • IoT ecosystem. – Integrate with other smart city solutions for holistic urban management which improves overall efficiency and quality of life for residents.

In summary, fill-level and metric tracking sensors in bins can significantly enhance waste management operations, reduce costs, improve environmental outcomes, and provide valuable data for informed decision-making.
