Due to the regional imbalance in my country`s economic development, there are obvious differences in the amount of sludge produced in cities across the country. At present, the amount of urban sludge produced is mainly concentrated in the eastern region. According to statistics, sludge production in 11 eastern provinces (cities) accounted for 63.87% of the total sludge in the country; sludge production in 8 central provinces accounted for 20.9% of the total sludge in the country; 12 provinces (cities) in the west accounted for 20.9% of the total sludge in the country. ) Accounted for 15.23% of the total sludge in the country. However, with the rise of central China and the large-scale development of the western region, as well as the implementation of the national environmental protection "Eleventh Five-Year Plan", the amount of sludge produced in some provinces (cities) in the central and western regions continues to increase. The average growth rate of urban sludge across the country is 16.82%. The average growth rate of the central and western regions is as high as 23.29% and 21.83% respectively. Therefore, the central and western regions will also face tremendous pressure on sludge treatment in the next few years.

Urban sludge has a high calorific value because it contains a large amount of organic matter, which lays the foundation for the potential value of sludge resource utilization, and also determines the possibility of harmless and resource-based treatment of urban sludge. The basic condition for urban sludge to contribute to the calorific value is that the moisture content of the sludge must be reduced from about 80% when it comes out of the sewage treatment plant to less than 30%. This means that the deep dewatering of the sludge can be used as a resource for urban sludge. The technology of chemical utilization is key, therefore, we should further research on the sludge treatment process.
The sludge problem of sewage treatment plants has become one of the environmental problems urgently to be solved in our country. With the strengthening of environmental protection and people`s further understanding of the limitations of existing sludge treatment and disposal technologies, countries around the world are investing heavily in research and development of new technologies, striving to find more economical and reasonable sludge treatment solutions.
