Webinar: Linked surface and subsurface modeling
Surface flood modeling within urbanized areas has traditionally been performed using 1-D modeling techniques, i.e. HECRAS modeling for FIRM preparations. The recent implementation of 2D surface flow modeling has allowed urbanized areas to be modeled more accurately, but lack the subsurface drainage infrastructure interface. This presentation focuses on the current modeling practice of combining the surface 2D model of xp2D with the 1D subsurface model using xpswmm to more accurately identify urban watershed flooding characteristics. This method allows full utilization of surface and subsurface conduit storage to more accurately size your entire drainage system within one model. RBF will briefly show a few example projects where they experienced benefits from using coupled 1D/2D modeling.
