From personal values to business proposition

In early 2019, a personal care product developer reached out to our research group at Case Western Reserve University for the biodegradability test of their polymer samples.

While working with them, we noticed something very wrong with the biodegradability test industry. Despite that all the methods were well developed and followed by existing testing facilities, such services were not even close to hitting mass adoption. That’s because these tests at the time were all very time consuming (4-6 months per test), labor intensive, and completely unaffordable ($3,000-8,000 per sample) for the average industrial customers.

So we set off on a mission to change that, to make such services AI and robotics driven, efficient, reliable, and cost-effective.

After years of research and development, Aropha was launched. Our first product, the Certification Test, which was similar to the services provided by our competitors, revolutionized the industry by cutting both the average turnaround time and the cost by at least 70%.

Since then, much has changed. We built the best AI in the business to power ArophaAI so that our customers can make predictions reliably with just a few clicks. The new product High-Throughput Screening opens a brand-new work format that sets a new standard for rapid and large-volume experimental tests.

Even though a series of standard methods have been established for biodegradability test, a number of issues and limitations are frequently encountered in the lab, including but not limited to:

Low repeatability and reliability
Low throughput
Labor intensive
High cost

In addition, current contract lab industry is not equipped to provide web-based platforms for its customers to fully control their sample inventory, projects, batches, data analysis, and reports. The email-based communications between the customers and the labs for project execution has been a big reason leading to the low productivity.
