Diffused Aeration Systems

SHARE

Diffused aeration is used to increase oxygen levels in relatively shallow water bodies which are stratified to any degree or which experience anaerobic conditions in the winter months. In diffused aeration, compressed air is released through holes in diffuser lines placed near the bottom of the water body.

The rising bubbles transfer oxygen to the water and transport bottom water to the surface, where direct contact with the atmosphere and photosynthesis continue the oxygenation process. The circulatory pattern created by the water flow also discourages the growth of algae species that prefer calm water or require adequate sunlight to proliferate.
