Correlated SolutionsModel High-Speed -Digital Image Correlation System for Dynamic Testing

SHARE
The VIC-3D High-Speed digital image correlation system is designed to provide high-resolution full-field shape, displacements, velocities, and strain measurements. It is capable of operating at frame rates ranging from 500 to 500,000 Hz, with configurations available for optional frame rates up to 5 MHz. This system integrates seamlessly with high-speed cameras and the VIC-Snap HS acquisition software, facilitating ease of calibration and image acquisition. With the ability to record synchronized external analog inputs, the system is well-suited for monitoring dynamic material behaviors under varied loading conditions, making it ideal for applications such as crash testing, vibration analysis, and explosive events. The VIC-3D HS system supports a marker tracking module and can be upgraded for advanced vibration analysis. It includes standard features like 3D coordinate measurements, comprehensive strain tensors, and post-processing tools for statistical analysis. The system comes with technical support and software upgrades, ensuring scientific accuracy and operational reliability.

The VIC-3D High-Speed (HS) digital image correlation system is a high-speed measurement system for full-field shape, displacements, velocities, strains, and much more.  Systems with frame rates from 500 to 500,000 Hz are available, and configurations are customized to your applications and budget.  See the VIC-3D Ultra High-Speed system page for frame rates up to 5 MHz. Our systems are streamlined and integrated with supported high-speed cameras with acquisition software VIC-Snap HS, which allows the user to acquire calibration and test images with ease.  Synchronized images are seamlessly acquired and saved in the correct format for fast data analysis in VIC-3D.  Furthermore, VIC-Snap HS enables external analog data to be recorded via an included data acquisition system synchronizing load or displacement data frame-by-frame.

The VIC-3D HS system includes all the benefits of the standard VIC-3D system in addition to fully-integrated high-speed cameras. Shape, displacement, and strain are tracked and computed for every data point (pixel subset) within the field of view.  Material behavior often changes under dynamic loading; therefore dynamic (high-speed) image acquisition is required to measure these behaviors. High-speed image acquisition opens a realm of possibilities to measure surface deformation in ballistic events, explosives, or vibration. All acquisition and data analysis is done quickly and automatically with this integrated and user-friendly system.

High-speed cameras are very useful for the qualitative assessment of high-speed events; however, it can be very difficult or impossible to obtain quantitative data from images without commercial software. Motion tracking software helps with this problem, but can only track movement at defined points, and is generally less accurate. Since digital image correlation (DIC) analyzes a speckle pattern applied to the surface of the specimen, full-field data can be computed to measure localized strains and displacements with sub-pixel accuracy. VIC-3D also includes a free integrated marker tracking module and may be updated to add vibration analysis, which rivals expensive Laser Doppler vibrometer (LDV) systems. Marker tracking can be useful if displacements are only needed at discrete points, such as the head or limbs on a crash test dummy. Common dynamic applications for this powerful system include (but are not limited to) crash testing, airbag deployment, vibration analysis, bird strike tests, ballistic events, explosive events, drop tests, Kolsky bar tests, fracture mechanics, and much more.
