OVT - Disposable Soil Headspace Testing Container
This OVT container is a one time use, biodegradable and disposable volumetric soil sampling device. It is an innovative tool to aid in the preliminary testing of media/soils that have been impacted by a wide variety of volatile organic contaminants of concern (COC’s).

Benefits to user include:
- Air tight OVT lid has built in sealed sampling ports of varying sizes to accommodate different size probes
- Container lids have hook mechanism to link together so all samples from one well/boring can be easily grouped together. Lids also have area to write information like well/boring number to keep samples organized (see photo)
- Lids made of recyclable, low density polyethylene (LDPE) and cups from environmentally friendly biodegradable plastic (corn-based) – both items are lighter to carry and stack/store vs. glass mason jars
- Container is designed for one time use reducing potential for cross-contamination of samples (creating invalid data) due to washing and reusing mason jars from multiple sites
- In field labor efficiencies associated with use due to nonbreakable nature (reduces potential workmen`s comp injuries)
The OVT container has been granted a USPTO patent (# US 8,156,786 B2) and has been accepted by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection-BPSS as an Innovative Technology.
