Spectra-Grout - Hydrophilic Polyurethane
Spectra-Grout is a ready-to-use hydrophilic polyurethane designed to repair cracks and leaks in wastewater structures. Spectra-Grout reacts with water to create a shaving crème like foam. Within 30 seconds of contact with the ground water, this chemical grout system begins to foam. The high viscosity assures that the grout will not readily flow out from the point of placement. The foam solidifies in minutes, stopping the leak and filling the void. The material will expand up to several times the original volume of grout and water. Material is available in tubes and is applied with a standard caulking gun.
To stop leaks at a precast manhole section joint drill a hole into the joint and a second hole into the joint at a point directly opposite the first hole. Pump a tube of Spectra-Grout into the first hole and close hole with a wooden plug. When water begins to change color at the second hole, inject a tube of grout into this hole and close the second hole with a wooden plug. To stop leaks coming from cracks, drill an injection hole below the area that is leaking. Inject Spectra-Grout until grout shows at crack area. As grout swells it will stop leak. If leak originates from a pipe penetration located in the structure wall, drill an injection hole below the pipe at an angle to access the area next to the pipe. Inject grout until it shows in the leaking water. As grout swells it will stop leak.
