Control System requirements for Lean and Stand-Alone Cellular Automation typically specify units that are small, easily configurable, modular and low cost. The software is easy to learn and implement and often included with the price of the controller.

PC-based systems are typically lower cost for the initial hardware, but more expensive from a software perspective as development takes more time and has more caveats.
