Founded in 1946 by Nikolaos Petsios, the business started as a sole trading company manufacturing templates.In the early 1960’s, the company expanded its activities in producing metal furnitures, oil stoves and other innovative products. Towards the end of 1968, the production of pre-fabricated shelves began. These were used by the early supermarkets.

In 1972 the family business changed its name to SPIDER METAL COMPANY N. PETSIOS ANS SONS S.A.. The 1970’s saw a wide expansion and extensive development of the metal shelves for the whole of Greece.

Also in 1974, Spider pioneered the metal manufacturing parts of STAYER lorries, steel calyxes and parts for Jeep vehicles.

In 1975, a second factory was being built in Ioannina and in 1980, a new modernized units started the production of steel calyxes for the Greek Armed Forces.

In 1983, Spider began the production of metal galvanized wheeled waste containers.

In 1995, Spider opened its first international subsidiary in Italy, SPIDER ITALIA which handles all products relating to waste containers.

In 1998, a second subsidiary was opened in the United Kingdom, SPIDER UK LTD further promoting a wide range of products associated with waste management.

In June 1999, the company takes over the COMMERCIAL SPIDER-EQUIP STORES S.A., this enabled the full integration of its activities and establishing a more rational planning of the financial and commercial policies.

December 1999, Spider was floated on the Athens Stock Exchange Market with the publication of 1,039680 shares and helped raise 5,2 billion Drachmas, around 15,3 million euro.

In November 2000, and to further consolidate is presence in the stores equipment’s market, Spider acquired 58% of “EPIPLOTECHNIKI S.A.” a company specializing in wood and crystal furnishing. This enable Spider to offer and combine different material such as metal, wood, aluminum and crystal furnishings to the retail market.

In 2001, an important and strategic contract was awarded to Spider to carry out the production of metal parts for the Mercedes Jeep on behalf of the Greek Armed Forces.

In July 2001, Spider UK was engaged in marketing the store equipment business in the United Kingdom.

SPIDER ENERGY S.A. was founded in July 2002 with a 50% holding by SPIDER S.A.

The company’s aim was to define and exploit renewable energy sources for the supply of electricity. A business plan for hydroelectric work and Aeolian Park was duly agreed and submitted. The licenses for 5 Aeolian Park with 95,2 MW power and 3 small hydroelectric projects of 19.95MW were published.
