Sulfuric Acid Storage Tanks
Engineers` Recommendation: Tank Material: HDLPE #880046. Fitting Material: CPVC. Gasket Material: Viton®. Bolt material: Hastelloy.
The High Density linear resin that Sierra uses provides:
- The best chemical barrier
- The best chemical resistance
- The best tank life
- Repairable by welding, if the tank is damaged.
Sulfuric Acid to 98% Concentration: HDLPE resin # 880046, natural in color, 1.9 specific gravity, 600 psi, meets ASTM standards and is warranted for a FULL 3 YEAR WARRANTY for storage at ambient temperatures.
Specify the correct material … one that you can depend on … a material that has been proven the BEST overall for the storage of Sulfuric Acid.

Sierra’s HDLPE 1.9 S.G. resin #880046 is a “true” high-density linear resin. Unlike other manufacturers who try to achieve the same results using a laminated LOW density linear liner in an XLPE tank. Sierra uses the superior HDLPE for the whole vessel; providing a much higher tensile strength and improved chemical resistance.
Ask the manufacturer of an XLPE tank lined with linear polyethylene what happens when they install (drill and dress) sidewall fittings through the tank wall and liner. Does the liner continue to be 100% laminated to the inside tank wall, even at the edges?
These tanks are excellent for:
- sodium hypochlorite storage
- sulfuric acid plastic container
- sulfuric acid storage container
- sodium hypochlorite tanks
- sulfuric acid storage
Additional advantages over lined tanks: No potential problems of total coverage of the liner material over the XLPE material during processing and, the delamination of the liner because of the constant filling and emptying processes associated with storage tanks in general.
IF, as ASTM standards allow, the tank flexes within the allowable guidelines, will the laminated liner flex and contract as one with the tank wall throughout years of service? Using HDLPE, Sierra does not have liner issues, as we offer the superior 1.9 S.G. HDLPE #880046 resin for the entire tank in (up to) 98% sulfuric service.
