The Optical Vege-Trimmer™ delivers precision automated cutting for carrots and parsnips, combining advanced optical technology with EHEDG-inspired hygienic design to maximise yield and efficiency. The Optical Vege-Trimmer™ represents a significant shift in vegetable processing technology. Developed in-house at Wyma Solutions, it is a unique, fully automated optical vegetable trimming system designed to remove foliage, crowns, and tails from carrots and parsnips before packing or processing. By combining advanced optical recognition with high-speed cutting, the Optical Vege-Trimmer™ delivers consistent, accurate trimming with minimal manual intervention.
The system individually identifies the unique shape of each vegetable, determining the appropriate cut point, and making the cut, all in just 0.2 of a second. Each machine is capable of top and tail operations at approximately 2 items per second, delivering a throughput of up to 1-2 tons per hour depending on produce size. The Optical Vege-Trimmer™provides significant improvements in productivity, sustainability and efficiency of operations – tested and proven in real-world environments.
High-speed optical systems ensure precise, repeatable trimming of foliage, tops, and tails, even at high throughputs. A V-infeed conveyor stabilises each vegetable prior to cutting, maintaining accuracy throughout the operation.
The machine features an EHEDG-inspired hygienic design, incorporating food-grade EPDM seals and IP69K-rated servo motors. Side chutes and caustic washdown-rated components simplify cleaning, while the open design provides excellent access for servicing and maintenance.
Trimmed waste is automatically collected by the base conveyor and transferred to a designated discharge point, streamlining waste removal and keeping the production line clean and efficient.
An intuitive control interface allows operators to easily calibrate, configure, and fine-tune cutting parameters. Once set, the system maintains consistent cutting accuracy, delivering reliable, high-value results across every production run.
