Venturi Scrubber
High efficiency wet-type inertial separator particularly suitable when particulate matter is sticky, flammable or highly corrosive. Venturi scrubbers are used mostly for flue gas cleaning from waste incineration and processes where high-solids slurries are handled or recycled, such as ore processing, desulphurization, thermal power generation etc.
Available in a wide range of sizes and construction materials and depending on energy consumption for gas cleaning (gas velocity at venturi throat and specific water consumption) venturi scrubbers can be:
- Low-pressure (2÷5 kPa)
- Medium-pressure (5÷10 kPa)
- High-pressure (over 10 kPa) Venturi scrubber consists of two main sections:
- Venturi throat (in which gas is prepared for cleaning)
- Centrifugal separator (in which the droplets carrying the particulate matter are separated from the gas stream)
- High collection efficiency of fine particulate matter;
- Low investment and maintenance costs (if no additional wastewater treatment is required).
- Reduced hazards of explosive dust-air mixtures.
- Increased operating costs due to high water consumption;
- Necessary wastewater treatment.
In most cases venturi scrubbers are used as high-efficiency dust collector, but it can also be used to condition the gas stream for other high-efficiency separators or in case of combined gas absorption and particulate control.
