EXTENDING THE HUMAN BODY
In Arthur C. Clarke’s 2001 a Space Odyssey the advent of applied tools is symbolised by a hominid extending his body with a bone to gain power over his surroundings/ nature. We can imagine how the bone transformed into a hammer, giving man the tools to defend himself against the natural elements by creating a house and thus a civilization. In the book the Monolith is a metaphor for this essential step in the evolution of man.

EXTENDING THE HUMAN SENSES
In our history the monolith would have appeared again as civilization progressed and man ventured into his next fundamental discovery; the use of lenses. The lens gave man the possibility to see the invisible. Looking through a telescope he discovered his place in the universe, while looking through the lens of a microscope he discovered its building blocks. Discovering the world of the very small enabled him to fight diseases and extend his lifespan.

TOWARDS A S.M.A.R.T. ECOLOGY
Now in our technological age we face a new Monolith. It first appeared in the year 1642 when Blaise Pascal created the first computer. Since then automated counting evolved into the modern computer which made the Internet possible. From the integration of the internet and sensor technology arises the possibilty of the intelligent environment, an environment which gives feedback by monitoring itself through sensors. A real S.M.A.R.T. Ecology for a safer and more efficient society. By being a leader in the field of counting technology IMMOTION is creating a solid basis for the Internet of Things.
