Advanced Engineering Services
From an initial beginning of building the worlds first partial core superconducting transformer composite cryostat we have learnt a lot, some of it patented, but most of it hidden in a big draw that’s locked! We’ve been developing jointing technology that can handle thermal shock and multiple cycles, impulse pressure rise, vacuum systems, low heat loss, and super thin walled technology.
It’s been deployed in superconducting (LTS and HTS) aviation motors, generators, motors and MRIs. We’ve built world leading capability in determining AC losses in superconducting systems, designing minimum heat path structures, and composite architecture that is well suited for both aviation, space and industrial applications. If you can dream it, we can design and build the solution you need.
We are able to bond metal inserts made from titanium, aluminium, stainless steel or copper onto composite components.
All moulds and mandrels are made in-house, reducing time and cost for clients.
Fabrum produces highly engineered designs that utilise the unique properties of composite materials. Our designs can use simple composites, such as e-glass, or more complex composites, such as carbon fibre and Kevlar, to achieve a superior product to metals or unreinforced plastics.
The Fabrum engineering facility in Christchurch is equipped with a variety of composite processing techniques, including vacuum bagging, infusion, RTM and winding.
Our manufacture of composite products is complemented by our waterjet profiling services, which can further refine and process composite products.
If needed, we can waterjet cut or machine to your specifications too. Plate can also be made to order, with custom material requirements possible. We can mix varieties of Glass, Carbon, and Kevlar fibre to achieve your desired structural properties too. We should also mention that we can manufacture Quasi-isotopic G10 Material to order.
There’s a wide range of options for manufacturing carbon and glass fibre tubes to your specification from a range of standard sizes too and material can be altered throughout the thickness of the tube to give the required results. Precision grinding and machining is available if required, from our in-house facilities.
We offer a full machining and fabrication service to enable us to construct product from a combination of tube, plate and specialist mouldings.
JOINING COMPOSITES TO NON-COMPOSITE PARTS.
Fabrum has perfected techniques required to join composites to non-composite parts for use in cryogenic applications, ensuring device integrity when operated at up to 4K and 6 part pressure.
Fabrum manufactures a large number of tubes and plates into complex and specific shapes.
Fabrum uses a number of processes to manufacture complex shapes, including waterjet profiling, CNC milling, drilling and assembly. All moulds and jigs are manufactured in-house.
Fabrum provides OEM contract manufacturing of glass and carbon composite tube and plate, requiring intricate machining details and surface finishing, for international customers.
Fabrum offers medium and high production volumes of high tolerance cylindrical grinding and CNC milling of complex components in composite material.
