Community Services
These pages can be used to access relevant information on regulation, economics, finance, feedstock, technology and operational examples.
Use the Biogas Map to locate other plants in your local area that could potentially be competing for the same feedstock. Without a secure feedstock stream AD is not viable; the plant must be fed a consistent and regular diet. Therefore, feedstock supply should be the key determinant when scaling and designing a community waste facility and security will be required when seeking finance.
There are a number of ways of Using Biogas derived from community AD facilities. Small-scale facilities could make use of the gas locally for the benefit of the local community; whereas larger scale facilities will put electricity or gas into the national grid, or may convert to biomethane for use as a vehicle fuel.
Digestate is another important factor, as community facilities do not typically have direct access to land for spreading the digestate. It is essential the market for digestate is explored and secured, or further digestate processing considered in early stages of the project.
