Industrial Hygiene Services
OTIE provides occupational and environmental safety and health services nationwide. Our industrial hygienists specialize in the anticipation, recognition, evaluation, and control of occupational and environmental health and safety hazards.
We have conducted site audits for major environmental remediation projects conducted for federal clients such as the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the Naval Facilities Engineering Command, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, General Service Administration, Air Force Center for Environmental Excellence, and other government clients. These projects included reviews of site concerns and conditions, which included chemical, biological, and physical hazards for each possible task to be conducted at the site; proper selection of personal protection equipment for each activity; selection of air monitoring equipment and techniques dealing with each task and the hazards; and complying with all applicable OSHA, EM 385-1-1, and state specific regulations and requirements.
Additional areas of expertise include Site Safety and Health Plan preparation for hazardous waste remediation; assisting in the development of lead monitoring programs for specific clients with potential exposure to heavy metals during work activities; collection of air samples and conducting real-time monitoring; and performing indoor firing range evaluation for possible lead and aldehydes exposure, elevated noise levels throughout and near the range; and the ventilation performance during firing range activities.
We have developed project designs for abatement activities, supervised abatement operations, and conducted industrial hygiene monitoring and clearance monitoring for these operations, including lead, arsenic, and asbestos. We have prepared work practice procedures for lead abatement and operations and maintenance activities associated with lead-based paint abatement in occupied buildings.

OTIE prepared a criteria document for outlining benchmarks for the design, operation, and maintenance of two indoor firing ranges in Illinois. We recommended engineering upgrades as well as upgrades in record keeping, range cleaning, and control of HVAC systems.
OTIE provided occupational safety and industrial hygiene services in support of preparation of job safety analyses and associated job descriptions for positions within the sub-arc and assembly shop at the Bucyrus International Production Facility, South Milwaukee, WI.
OTIE provided negative exposure assessment monitoring and resulting industrial hygiene exposure assessment report for window removal and glazing removal activities, and historical window and door restoration/preservation for the Federal Building and U.S. Courthouse in Milwaukee, WI.
