Renovating existing plants Services
The need to satisfy new or updated requirements for better water quality can often be achieved by renovating and optimising an existing water treatment plant. New equipment such as new filters and media, motorised valves and electronic flow sensors can facilitate operations, improve the treated water quality and meet current standards.
The need to meet the increasing requirements for improved water quality is often reached by optimising existing water treatment plants. Optimising existing systems is simpler from a resources and timeframe point of view.
Typical reasons for renovation a water treatment plant are:
- automation and supervision
- environmental protection
- reducing operational costs
- increasing production capacity with modern equipment
- WHS reasons
A second stage will include a project schedule with decommissioning, installation and commissioning times and a rough costs estimate. This schedule is a critical part of the renovation project as will provide a first estimation of downtime/shutdown as well as impact on the overall water plant production. In many occasions the water supply cannot be interrupted and new processes will have to be installed and commissioned before the old water treatment equipment is decommissioned.
Schedule and budget estimate must both be approved by all stakeholders as part of the go/no-go decision.
- Replacing filtering media: replacing tradicional filtering media (sand and anthracite) with modern high rate filtering media can significantly increase the quality and volumen of treated water
- Modernising the control system can decrease the number backwash cycles, optimise performance and reduce operational costs
- Modifying chemical treatment: Replacing a coagulant, adding an oxidant or including remineralization (CO2 + lime)
