Technical Communications for EHS Professionals™
Technical writing and communication are critical to all aspects of environmental, health, and safety (EHS) work. You might need to communicate with a variety of different audiences, from other EHS specialists to professionals in related disciplines to laypersons. Many times, you will be communicating with all of these at once. Ineffective technical communication can create problems including inaccurate information, unpersuasive materials, damaged credibility, misunderstood content, and compliance failures. For example, a poorly written SWPPP can trigger an enforcement action, and an unclear permit application can delay issuance and disrupt operations.
Effective use of current and evolving large language model (LLM) machine learning tools is incorporated to help students drive efficiency and accuracy, while avoiding the professional risks of AI dependency.
Technical Communications for EHS Professionals™ presents many elements that will help strengthen your technical writing, including writing process best practices, editing and proofreading, document formatting, common grammar issues, and writing exercises with immediate feedback. The course covers Chicago Manual of Style guidelines and contrasts them with the U.S. Government Publishing Office (GPO) Style Manual and the American Psychological Association (APA) Publication Manual.
The course also addresses developing and delivering live presentations, covering effective slide design, structuring technical content for verbal delivery, managing audience engagement, and building confidence as a presenter. Participants will practice presentation techniques and receive individual feedback in a supportive setting.
All class exercises are conducted in a manner that allows students to receive individual feedback without the need to share work products with the class, eliminating any stress associated with the learning process. Participants should have access to and be generally familiar with Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.
Technical Communications for EHS Professionals™ is offered mainly in our Annapolis, Maryland, training facility. All sessions run two days and the course fee is $1,115, with discounts available for early registration, groups of three or more, government employees, students, and veterans. Corporate partnership discounts are also available.
