Microorganism and bacteria control is increasingly an important topic of discussion in the oil and gas industry. Inadequate disinfection and treatment of well injection water and stimulation fluids, used in the recovery of oil and gas has been proven to lead to a host of negative consequences, including: - Souring the well with hydrogen sulphide gas H2S, Microbiological induced corrosion, Loss of fluid stability during injection., Plugging of the well, Damage of equipment and components (e.g. RO membranes, ...

Before natural gas or oil is transported through new pipelines, the entire length of the pipeline assembly is pressure tested using either fresh water or seawater, and is the final construction ‘quality assurance’ test before the pipeline is put into operation. The pressure test is held for a specific amount of time, from between 1 day and 100 days, to ensure structural integrity before the pipeline is placed into ...

In industrial cooling towers, bacterial growth on surfaces (biofilm) causes serious problems, both contributing to the deterioration of materials and, most important, increasing the risk of harmful microbiological contaminations (e.g. Legionella pneumophila). For these reasons, large amounts of chemical substances (biocides) are used to limit microbiological growth in such ...

In industrial cooling towers, biofilm growth can cause serious problems, both contributing to the deterioration of materials and, most important, increasing the risk of harmful microbiological contaminations (e.g. Legionella). For these reasons, large amounts of chemical substances (biocides) are used to limit microbiological growth in such systems. The manager of this cooling tower planned to automatically dose chlorine continuously (24/7) in the water; later on, he decided to install an ALVIM probe in the plant, ...

In a heat exchanger, a major component of any power plant, a 20 microns thick bacterial layer (biofilm) can cause a 30% decrease in thermal efficiency: biofilm, indeed, is up to 4 times more insulating than calcium carbonate scale. Moreover, biofilm can increase inorganic fouling, producing sticky substances that increase particles adhesion. For these reasons, large amounts of chemical substances (biocides) are used to limit microbiological growth in such systems. The manager of this power plant decided to install ...

Modern Water’s ATP test is the first step in determining the effectiveness of a biocide treatment program. Microbiological growth within a cooling water system if not controlled can result in the formation of biological fouling layers (biofilm) on all surfaces in contact with the ...

With Aqua Clear’s knowledge of cooling towers, you can be assured that we will squeeze the most out of your water while still maintaining the water quality your equipment requires. Cooling Towers, and the water within them, are continuously exposed to a wide range of environmental threats that can quickly reduce the efficiencies of an entire cooling system. Corrosion, Scale, and Microbial Contamination must be effectively controlled to ensure safety and to achieve optimum performance of Cooling Towers and ...

Even when it has not been created by pathogenic bacteria, biofilm is the ideal environment for the survival and growth of pathogens, includingLegionella pneumophila. It is well known that such bacteria do not usually form biofilms by themselves, but they are commonly found in biofilms made by other bacteria. This kind of environment greatly increases Legionella possibility of survival and growth. Thus, the best way to prevent Legionella outbreaks is limiting biofilm ...

Microbiologically influenced corrosion (MIC) is a potentially catastrophic result of unchecked bacterial activity and can seriously compromise well integrity and damage critical infrastructure. Bacteria can corrode oil production facilities, lead to the souring of wells, and counteract the reuse of flow-back water and produced water. Ultimately, this results in higher operating costs, reduced revenue, and severe environmental and health hazard. The traditional methods for detecting and enumerating bacteria in Oil ...

Used catalytic converters are collected and recycled in order to reclaim the precious metals Pt, Rh and Pd. Typically, the entire honeycomb core is removed and ground into fine powder. Once in powder form, the precious metal catalysts can be extracted, or the powder can be sold to a refiner. The honeycomb core is typically ceramic, containing combinations of the elements Al, Si, Fe, Zn, Sr, Zr, Ba, La and Ce. Some cores can be made of a stainless steel honeycomb and so would contain higher Fe and other metals. ...

Catalytic converters in cars are used for the reduction of hazardous emissions, such as carbon monoxide (CO), hydrocarbons (HxCy), and nitrogen oxides (NOx). These harmful substances are converted into neutral carbon dioxide (CO2), water, and nitrogen by catalytic chemical reactions, which are accelerated by three platinum group metals (PGM): platinum, palladium, and rhodium. In the context of recycling, specialized analyzer for catalytic converter, often based on XRF technology, are invaluable for accurately ...
