Solutions for Restore Forests

Global Algae’s unique technology enables our algae farms to generate 40X more protein per acre than soybeans, the highest productivity conventional crop. This means that we could double our protein output with only 2.5% of the land currently in soy production or that every 3,000 acres of algae farming for protein meal will save 120,000 acres of rainforest. ...

Solutions for Replenish Ocean Ecosystems

We currently capture ~75 million tons of fish for food and ~20 million tons of fish to produce fishmeal and oil for aquaculture feed. Aquaculture produces about 80 million tons of fish for food. Assuming a 20% reduction in fish catches would restore the ocean ecosystems, i.e. reduce wild capture to 60 million tons for food and 16 million tons for aquaculture feed, then we need to produce about 240 million tons of fish from aquaculture to meet the ~300 million tons of demand projected by FAO for 2050. Building 30 ...

Solutions for Climate - Reduce CO2 Emissions

Climate change is one of the defining issues of our time. Industrialization, deforestation, and commercial agriculture have caused greenhouse gases in the atmosphere to rise to record levels. Agriculture and electricity/heat production are the two largest generators of greenhouse gases at 25% of total emissions each. Transportation fuels are also a significant contributor at 14% of total ...

Solutions for Wildlife - Prevent Mass Extinction

Biological diversity loss is one of the most severe human-caused global environmental dilemmas. Species are becoming extinct at an accelerated rate, unmatched for the past 65 million years, due to habitat loss, overfishing, use of pesticides and herbicides, water impairment, and climate change. Without action the prognosis for many species is dire including extinction of 40% of insect species[1], 12% of bird species, and 30% of amphibians. Avoiding a sixth mass extinction will require rapid, greatly intensified ...

Solutions for Sustainable Food

Accessible, affordable, healthy and sustainable protein is critical to human nutrition and economic development. Yet there is not enough arable land and water on earth to meet the needs for 10 billion people, the expected figure in 2050. Either drastic changes need to be made in our diets, i.e. eating very little meat, or we need to achieve much higher productivity. While some progress is being made on lower meat diets, the Food and Agriculture Division of the United Nations predicts that world meat production ...
