The environmental challenges require internationally accepted standards, in which limits and test methods are defined. Metrohm instruments and applications comply with a lot of international environmental standards. Substances introduced into the environment are distributed among the environmental compartments water, soil (sediment), and air, as well as among the organisms living in them (biosphere). Only if we know the type and quantity of these contaminants can we protect the environment and its ...

Today’s food and beverages (F&B) are much more than just simple "organic fuels" needed for survival. Beyond their nutritive value, they are consumed for their taste or flavor. Increasingly, they are also a source for maintaining health and enhancing our well-being via high-quality nutrition. At the same time, with an ever-increasing number of processed foods, food quality and safety aspects are becoming more important. All the more because foods are highly complex materials – prone to degradation ...

Fungicide carbendazim can some times be used to combat mold on citrus fruits including oranges. Recently, low residue levels of the fungicide were reported to be present in the bulk orange juice import shipments to the USA. Because this compound can persist through processing steps and may be found in the final consumer product, many government agencies have established maximum residue limits (MRLs) to ensure the safety of their population. Presented here is a single method, involving fast and effective ...

Catalytic converters in cars are used for the reduction of hazardous emissions, such as carbon monoxide (CO), hydrocarbons (HxCy), and nitrogen oxides (NOx). These harmful substances are converted into neutral carbon dioxide (CO2), water, and nitrogen by catalytic chemical reactions, which are accelerated by three platinum group metals (PGM): platinum, palladium, and rhodium. In the context of recycling, specialized analyzer for catalytic converter, often based on XRF technology, are invaluable for accurately ...
