Locating pipes and cables case study
GPR can be used to determine the location and depth of metallic, non-metallic, plastic, concrete and asbestos-concrete utilities, and cables (power, signal, etc.)
Locating of City Utilities
The VIY3-300 GPR was used for locating of city utilities (water, gas, sewer, etc.). This profile shows city utilities at a depth of 1.2 and 2.0 meters (wave speed is 130 meters per microsecond).
This profile was acquired by a dirt surface and crossed pavement. This is clearly seen in the interval from 2.5 to 6 meters. You can see three utilities at depth of 80 cm, 2.4 and 2.8 meters (80 cm, 2 and 7 meters from the profile beginning, respectively).
This profile was obtained by moving the GPR on a paved sidewalk. In addition to several utilities (2.6 and 5.4 meters from the beginning), objects of underground infrastructure are visible around 3 and 11 meters of the profile. You can see response from manhole near 15.5 meters of the profile.
