SFE - Double Suction Pump Casing

Double Suction Casings or Volutes allow liquids to enter the center of blades from both sides simultaneously. The double suction design eliminates the axial forces on the impeller, which allows for higher flow than a single suction impeller. Double Suction Casing are less vulnerable to wear and tear caused by axial thrust, which occurs when water enters the impeller. Since liquid enters both sides of a Double Suction casing, one side effectively cancels out the axial thrust of the other, assuming the flow is even on both sides.
